	SYSTEM
	win2000 advanced server
	filepro 5.0.09

I am trying to connect wireless handheld palms with integrated
scanners, probably from the SYMBOLS company, to my filepro system. I haven't
bought any handheld units yet but I'm assuming they will come with something
like windows CE. The software in the handheld units won't be filepro. I tried
running filepro on a handheld before and it was just way too hard to work with.
The text was way too small and lack of F-keys made it virtually unusable.
The problem is, how do I get other software to read or write to
filepro files. I have quite a few different types of applications in mind.
(example: to correct inventory locations in my warehouse, first scan the bar
code on the shelf, then scan every item on that shelf. When doing this, I want
my location codes in filepro/inventory to be updated instantly.) It would be
nice to have real time functionality. The only thing I have come up with so far
is using incoming/outgoing text files and having each program read/post to the
files. I'm thinking about the sleep command to scan the incoming file about 4
times a second. If any data exists, I can work with it within filepro and
generate output to an outgoing file. The program in the palm would have to be
capable of the same for this to work.

I guess I'm looking for other options. I only want to do this once, The
right way, The first time.

Any feedback on which handhelds work best, access points to use, etc...
would be greatly appreciated.

	Thank You, Mike Fedko

Mike,

Palm OS is really not compatible with filePro. Not sure about windows CE but I
would think NOT.

Now, you do have some choice depending what you need to do and the size of the
computer required. You could use on of the new tablet PC's or the OQO computer
John mentioned on an earlier posting.

See www.oqo.com for the specs on the little #. It's about the size of a PDA, is
wireless/Bluetooth and will has XP Pro as an OS. However, these little beauties
are a bit expensive. However, they should be very easy to connect to your
existing network wirelessly and this ease may more then off set the cost of
moving data around from a PDA to filePro.
