I believe you're incorrect.  Actually, I can prove you're incorrect.  I
just tried it with a window where my MainWindow ($mw) is withdrawn:

     $mw->withdraw;

No window on the screen, the GUI window shows up in the Alt-TAB list.

I'd already tried that, I thought, but I just confirmed it.  Thanks for the
attempted help though.  I'm still open to suggestions, certainly.  It's one
of those less well-documented things.  :(
