If a printer you call "default" is in fact the default system printer,
then the command
lp filename
should behave *exactly* like the command
lp -ddefault filename.
IOW, you never need to specify the default system printer with the -d
option; omitting the -d option sends the job to the default system
printer.
Calling a printer "default" does not make it the default system printer,
you have to so designate it.
What does the second line of the output of 'lpstat -t' tell you?
