OT: SuSE 9.2 preemptive strike

Only marked OT because it's not strictly fP-specific.

However, inevitably, someone's going to ask about running SuSE 9.2, which
was just released on the 23rd. Or worse yet, they'll say they've already
blindly upgraded to the latest and greatest for the heck of it, encounter
issues, and ask if anyone else is running into the same.

The standard answers apply:

1) The distribution is too new. Wait at least six months until they shake
out the bugs and get a decent errata collection.

2) The kernel on which the distribution is based is 2.6.8 as a base, and
they'll back-port to there for a while. Historically, kernels have not
become production-level stable until around .18, so it's my opinion that
unless you -absolutely- cannot live without something present in 2.6, you
are still best served going with 9.0 Professional, which is based on a
quite stable 2.4.21+. There are very few circumstances in which this might
be a justified risk.

IMHO, SuSE never should have released another distribution so soon, based
on so little extra benefit and still carrying such significant risk. 9.1
was just released at the end of May. The kernel being the main sticking
point, I feel it's pointless for production machines. I was taken more
than a little aback when I just the release notice.

Just a FYI to those even considering it.
