FYI
One of my client's, has been doing dial-up EDI for over 4 years now. However a
year ago, we added DSL service to that modem line. Everything worked fine up
until few weeks ago. The all of a sudden, she could not connect to GEIS and I
had difficulty connecting with pcAnywhere.
What I discovered was that the phone line portion of the line has gotten
"noisier" causing the modem to have problems connecting or staying connected.
When I moved the modem to another modem line, the problem cleared up.
Actually the modem connected faster and the transmission speed was better.
Suggestion: DON'T SHARE A DIAL-UP MODEM ON A DSL LINE. This also means that
FAX machines may have a problem.
The above is more of a warning for those who may install a DSL line at home or
in a small office.
