optimization via selection sets/indices

Thanks everyone for all of the responses.  The general
consensus was that the selection critera were too 
complex for rreport, so the indexes were not being
used.  I've changed to use "lookup -" in a -v selection
process (suggested by Bill Vermillion, Richard Kreiss
and others), and the resulting selection is essentially
instantaneous.
