Post the first couple lines of the original .cvs file here. I'm sure 
it'll be just like this...
"80032535323234","134234","ASDF asdfA"
"01155512123445","231324","QRET asdfa"

Which filePro will be quite happy with.

You're letting Excel's presentation of the data drive your thinking.
The default view of numbers on your computer is set to display numbers 
over a certain amount in scientific notation. Since you're opening a 
.CVS file which contains NO formatting controls that's what you are 
going to get.

So.

Open the file with NOTEPAD, and use that to assist you in the import of 
data instead of Excel.

For those still reading...
If you have files with wierd control characters I have found that 
edit.exe located in /windows/system32 will display them and allow for 
replacing characters that do not display with Notepad or Wordpad.
