PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, 5:04 p.m.: A morning post
at the Drudge Report brought a little storm of mayhem to the
polls at a Salvation Army at 11th and Hunterdon St. in North
Philadelphia. Drudge cited unattributed reports that hundreds
of votes had been planted on voting machines at the site.
Members of the media quickly descended on the African
American and Latino neighborhood, causing Kerry volunteers
to worry that voters would be intimidated by all the commotion.
Hours later, city officials made statements confirming that poll
workers had mistaken an analog counter registering the
number of votes the machines had ever recorded for new
votes, which are displayed on a digital screen.
