popup update question

Okay, I'm going to top-post this because I don't really want anyone to
_have_ to read the below stuff if they don't want to... it is so convoluted
and mixed up it reminds me of the Florida Voting Booth question. Are you
sure you don't want to not vote for the Kerry team? :-) I have no idea
what this is about or the thread it came from... other than my popup update
question is mentioned. For the record, you certainly can use @when
processing on real fields and dummy fields in a popup update... as long as
you do it correctly. We have been doing it for about 12 years now I would
say, maybe more. We do it in just about _every_ processing table we ever
write... and I have posted exact directions and example code on how to do it
at least 5 times on this list. Basically you load the dummies yourself, and
post them yourself all on a screen that is in the current file. It is dead
simple and works without any problem whatsoever.

So, as for it being a 6.0 feature... too bad, it works already. Some might
want it to work in another way, perhaps, on a popup update either in the
current file or the looked-up file, but that is quite obviously, impossible.
You can't have fields representing the current file and a looked up file.
So, the work around which I believe Ken White came up with back when the
popup update command first appeared _is_ a simple/perfect (at this time)
solution.
