OT: BackupEdge - "The TR- Experiment"

This is OT, but many of the denizens here... blah, blah, blah...

In the last 6 months to a year, we've started having problems with
BackupEdge reliably writing to TR-4 tapes. We've been doing that since
about 6 months after TR-4 shipped; initially, we didn't have any
problems at all worth talking about.

But lately, we seem to get a lot of Error Code is 4, Tape Write Error 6
failures -- and in somce cases, these survive replacement of both the
tapes (with all new ones; Sony and Imation), and the drive. We've used
Seagate, Connor/Seagate and Exabyte Eagles (which, otherwise, are the
most reliable); it's happened (IIRC) on both SCSI and our few IDE
installs... and it's getting annoying.

I personally haven't talked to Tom's minions about it, but from things
my boss reports having heard them say, I gather they don't think much
of the format.

Can I get a show of hands? What are people using? How does it work?

Tape format, interface, backup frequency, software, reliability eval.

Email direct, I'll summarize for the list.

Cheers,
