Problem with having it at a seminar is for those of us whose company will
not pay for it, so I would rather see the paper...

Like you, when I need to define an edit, I usually have to do some
re-reading of the rules and testing. I'd bet that the problem is that all
of us we only write a few edits each year.
If you can get your hands on a copy of the old printed filePro
manual, circa fP 3.0, edits were explained quite well in there.
If you can't, then I think you will find that Stuart Werner explains
edits quite well in his filePro developers reference books. It takes me
only 10 minutes or so of reviewing Stuarts explainations, and I'm ready to
sit down and write a new edit.
Writing an edit is certainly an art. Witness the member of
variations of edits that pop up on this list whenever anybody requests help
writing an edit.
However, rather than a dry, boring white paper on writing edits, I
would like to propose that it be a topic taught at the next filePro
convention.
