Surrrrre you did, Tom. I bet I was just first and foremost on your mind
the second you hit send. I bet it's a regular occurrance. I'm -so- vain
and egotistical, I bet you have a tiny altar in your office next to your
terminal, just dedicated to worshipping me.
Or not. *cackles with glee*
You're -so- easy to get going. :) You're also as transparent as
cellophane. You didn't think squat until you saw my response, and I'm
betting we both know it. You just can't stand the chance that I might say
something without you tossing in a few cents' worth of commentary to try
and take me down a peg or two. Can't have those uppity ex-temps that used
to work for you getting one up, even in jest. My God, no. Reality as we
know it would surely fall subject to immediate dissolution were that to
pass.
<Shattner> Must....belittle........at....all...........costs!!! </Shattner>
SO easy. :)
Or perhaps even more apropos:
<Kirk> Tom [sic], I'm -laughing- at the superiour intellect! </Kirk>

1) I can't recall ever being a self-proclaimed list cop. I can remember
accusing JPR of that a few times, and even John in the past, but I've
surely never claimed to be. About the only thing I remember ever grousing
about personally were unsolicited large attachments, and HTML-only posts.
And the STN advert that 90%+ of the readership also complained about 2
years ago or so. Aside from that, no...not my bailiwick. I gave up
needing to control others' content when I closed my own web forums and gave
up being an IRC operator. Not worth the stress of bothering.
2) Apparently you enjoy proving yourself wrong, as I -already- got you
involved enough to respond the first time--and I wasn't even trying. If
you're wise enough to refrain from an encore performance, well then you're
learning, aren't you? :)
3) You've never seen a true, honest to God, flaming-arrow-of-death flame
from me, Tom. Frankly, you're not worth the stress of writing one either.
I mean, if you -were-, I might be happy to oblige, but I save those for the
truly needy and deserving. I can't just dole them out like candy to any
you, Dick, or Harry that wants to blather on about how they feel they might
be deserving of my efforts. :)
4) Purchase (or at least lease or rent) a sense of humour. They're
relatively inexpensive. The original comment was intended in a humourous
observational vein in the first place. Apparently I need to insert a line
of smileys for the severly humour-impaired. Here:
:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
If you'd like, I can send you a diff against the original post that will
insert it at the appropriate position. You know how to use patch(1),
right? :)
And what makes you assume you would get help with a mislabled subject like
that anyway? :) For that matter, what makes you think only responses that
are immediately helpful to you may be posted? I'm trying to remember what
forum I was in--ah, yes, it was comp.lang.perl.misc, about a month ago,
when someone critiqued my coding format style for two days instead of
addressing my actual technical issue, and in response to my grousing he
thus replied to me and said, "You think you can post and only accept the
answers you want? Wrong answer."
It's actually a valid point there or here. If you want a guaranteed fix,
hire a contractor. Otherwise, it's pot luck as to what you get in a forum
like this in response to any post on any topic. Deal.
Cheerio! XOXOXOXO :) :) :)
