I'm posting to the list - and my cables and adaptors that I may
need someday are being held just for that.
But let me point out two places that I have used in the past
that have cables and cards. I post this so others may file this
away in case they need things that everone else says "You can't get
those anymore, how about upgrading to XXX".
www.basoncomputer.com
When I had a client that needed a bigger hard drive, and they were
using an old narrow SCSI, I was looking for a narrow/wide adaptor
as all I could find were wide drives. The sales droids at Bason
were baffled, and said I'd have to talk to a tech and he'd be in
a 9AM PST.
I called back and told him my total problem and was looking for
narrow/wide adaptor, and he said "Well I do have 36 GB narrow
Seagate in stock for $199. I turned the phone to the client to
give them the CC number and the drive was here in 48 hours.
Everyone else had said "You need to put in a new controller [which
of course meant new drivers] and a new HD". About $700+
I've not done a lot with Bason - but have used them on and off for
the past 10 years - as they seem to have things that no one else
has.
Then there is a computer liquidation house that has all sorts of
interesting and hard to find items - and I've bought from them
about a 1/2 dozen time.
www.hitechcafe.com
I just checked there and I see what looks like the cables you need.
They also have the classic Adaptec 1540CF controller at $49. I paid
less than that for my spare, but it's there as a spare.
If you use that be sure to turn off plug'n'play.
You don't need a 2GB HP SCSI 5.25" FULL HEIGHT hard drive do you?
Only weighs about 5 pounds. I have one of those that's never been
used. In 5 more years maybe I can sell it to a museum.
Both of those places had things that made me look like a hero to a
pair of clients who had been quoted thousands on upgrades because
the dealer couln't find replacements.
