Depending on how the serial line is wired, and how the stty settings are
set, a disconnect on a serial connection should behave in one of two ways:

1. The line will remain active, and when the terminal or emulator is
restarted, it will arrive at exactly the same point. The user won't see
the residual screen, of course, but can often navigate out a level or two
to a repaint.

2. The tty session will be logged out, and this will generate a SIGHUP and
behave like my previous comments.
