Is it just me, or did Doug Luurs say:

Well, I only started with FF2 on the SNES. I never got to play the
original.

Then I went to FF7 on the PC. That in itself was a really horrile port
by EIDOS. The first big movie on the second CD would crash the game
entirely. Yet, I could play the .avi in Media Player just fine. It was
that ever-so-slow in-game AVI engine that let them super-impose things on
top of the movies that was buggered. Well I called them up and they first
try and say my P166 was not up to the task (the box said P133 recommended,
which I called them on). Then their ultimate solution was to offer me a
saved game from someone else that had been generated after that point.

I said, "You've -got- to be kidding me. I just spent 20hrs plus building
up my characters -just- the way -I- want them, and you want me to settle
for someone else's idea of how they should be? Not."

So I promptly copied all the movies to the HD, changed the movie path in
the registry for the game to that location, and then copied the intro
SquareSoft movie (tiny) onto the one that was problematic. *poof*, problem
solved and I got to continue with -my- characters. I mailed them back my
solution and to my knowledge they never bothered publishing it with the
rest of the troubleshooting stuff.

Wish I'd gotten it for the PSX, but I didn't have that yet at the time.

Then I played FFX on the PS2. I never have been able to beat Sin. :( And
I wanted to get FFX-2, but since I still haven't beaten Sin in FFX it
seemed a bit like skipping something important, and the reviews citing the
"dance" thing kind of made me wary of it not being up to par. I'll likely
eventually get it, despite that factor.

I've heard they're releasing a collection of them for one platform (maybe
several) at some point--from 1-6, I think, including the imports that I
think never really made it here officially.

So was there a Cid in the first one? He's been in all three that I've
played, so I'm guessing so.

My only real complaint with the later ones is that, while they're
breathtakingly done, they're edging more towards interactive movies than
games. Same is true with Metal Gear, really. There's a fine line there,
and some feel they've crossed it. I still think there was enough play in
FFX, but just a little more film and it would have been too much. I
remember the manual for FF2--I wish they -would- give stats on the
equipment like the end of that book did. What was that, like ten pages or
so of stats? :)
