Bob,
You might check into the PAR module from CPAN and use `pp` to make
self-contained executables under Windows.
Previously, I'd only used the commercial perl2exe. There are advantages
and disadvantages to both, but with the latest release of PAR, the only
real advantage of the commercial compiler I use is a bit faster unpacking
speed, as it's based in C, not perl. This will be addressed in a later
version of PAR, but the load times are relatively decent, even on an older
machine. PAR also now actually has the ability to encrypt the source code
better than perl2exe does, although you're obviously not concerned with
that aspect in your context--I mention it in passing for anyone that might
consider the module.
I've used PAR to some very good success, and am just passing on the idea
that one's software is (from my experiences) more likely to be adopted by
Windows users if a full perl installation is not required in advance of
running your programs. Some people are just put off by installing perl,
for whatever reason. You give them a Windows executable, they have no
problems with using it.
Just a thought, since you're kicking out things that are multi-platform and
are supporting Windows.
Bests,
