MenuMaestro: permissions problem with phantoms

I'm having some trouble porting a client to SuSE 9 from SCO 5.0.mumble.

The current issue is that MenuEze(?, Maestro)... (looks) -- it's
MenuMaestro 2.20 -- is having permissions problems with the phantom
copies it makes of selection tables and the like.

I'm running various version of Menu* in other places, and none of them
are SUID filepro, so this one isn't either... but the other ones work
ok and this one doesn't.

Specifically, on other sites, while the old phantoms often get left
laying around, they're all owned by filepro; on this system, they're
being created owned by the user in question.

This actually makes more sense to me, but I can't figure out why
'wendy' could run a posting process, which creates a phantom owned by
'wendy', and then *the same running menu process* decides it can't
write to the file it's just created.

ISTR that setiing it SUID filepro causes more problems than it cures,
but all suggestions are welcome.

Cheers,
