Yes, I make use of roll stock printers wherever possible. I'm quite
proficient at laying out very fancy labels on a couple of different makes of
programmable roll stock printers, especially the Toshiba Tec printers. The
Toshiba Tec programming language is very interesting to work with, in case
you're ever looking for a new skill to add to your repertoire.
It isn't the waste of a few labels that bothers most of my mailing
service customers, since they regularly print runs ranging from tens of
thousands to millions of labels in one printing. Cost is the overriding
factor. They print the labels on plain paper using dot matrix or other line
printers. Then we feed the pin fed paper into a Cheshire (or other make) or
automatic label applying equipment. The labeler cuts out the label, applies
glue to the back of the label, then sticks it on the mailing piece. You can
see Cheshire labels on most of the magazines that you receive.
