It was broken during the linux migration from a.out -> ELF.  The iBCS
module's x286emu portion then became unworkable.  And by that time, the
people in the community basically said, "Look, they've had five years or
more to migrate, screw 'em if they didn't."  That was actually the attitude
even as abi was being worked on.  The abi project was done only grudgingly,
and at the behest of (and with help from one of their engineers, I believe)
none other than Caldera.  

Apparently they didn't have a problem with linux -then-.  *cough*
