variable lookups possible?

Only Jeff Harrison would say something like:

Precisely what I needed to know.
I now believe that I can make the pseudo-RSS parsing module a reality, if
there was any interest. Aside from Richard saying that the only problem
would be licensing requirements for each server (which isn't really an
issue at several sites I've worked on, since they're doing it anyway--it's
the data sync that's lacking [sometimes severely]), there's been no
interest or comments expressed so far.
Maybe I'll write it, document the entire process, and keep it in my back
pocket for a rainy day when someone needs it.
Thanks -very- much for the response, Jeff. Thanks also to Ken and John.
(John's mention of 36 rather than 26 seems to indicate 0-9 are valid index
names as well, I presume...I'll be sure to handle those as well, then.)
