Just after Ernie, I had a problem at one of my client's and after speaking to
Ray, he asked me to send him the files.
I dutifully burned the complete app to a CD, mailed it to fpsupport with a full
set of instructions on how to duplicate the error.
Well, it has been almost a year and I have not heard one word about the problem.
Ray did acknowledge receiving the CD.
By the way, this is the second time I sent files with a problem and didn't hear
back.
After a few e-mails, I gave up and created 'work-arounds" for the problems.
As to fixing bugs in a given version such as 5.0.9, with no new features, I
would assume that fp would then have to have numbering 5.0.9.xx to keep track of
which release one was running.
It is still the developers, be he/she independent or in-house, to test
thoroughly and update being applied to a system.
Would any of you install an OS upgrade or patch a system without first testing
it; or at least wait until it has been tested by other before applying it?
For the most part, I have found fp's updates (NOTE: NOT UPGRADES) quite good.
Yes they have had problems in the past but I haven't seen anything break with
the maintenance updates in the 5.0.X series.
As I said previously, I test my apps for at least 2 months with a new fp release
or change in the OS to insure everything is working. My clients, like yours,
run their businesses on my software and downtime is costly for both them and me.
It is bad enough to have to correct problems caused by others, it's worse when
they are caused by me. I try to be very careful when upgrading client's app.
