Interesting information. I have heard of degradation, but it could be due
to old systems, as you say.

Yeah, well read the fine print VERY well where BS is concerned. They
had a $4.95/mo promo with a free modem for a 1yr contract for DSL. What
they -didn't- say out loud that was in the fine print is that it requires
you subscribe to their $36 Complete Choice solution. You can spend just
the $36 and add $3 to get the line -and- service from IgLou as a resold
BellSouth line with -decent- ISP service that's far superior to anything BS
is going to offer. Actually, I think that $4.95 might have also been their
256/128 DSL Lite, to boot--but I can't swear to it.

You really have to watch those people like a hawk.

Don't remind me. :-/ I told my brother he should get private cable or DSL
if they'll allow it, then supply it via wireless to a few people in his
dorm to defray the cost--get around the limitations of their network
entirely. He told me they don't allow wireless. I pointed him to the
U-Texas policy reversal that clearly cited that the FCC is the -only- body
that has the jurisdiction to regulate use of wireless devices. Of course,
they also won't let him get private cable -or- DSL in the dorm. I can see
the DSL, as it's probably running through a MUX and I don't even want to
think of the number of feet of cable they're running in any event. But the
cable they won't let him switch because their cable is on a contract of
some sort through the dorm rental. *sigh* Universities suck. You pay
-them- to treat you like crap. They have -no- concept of the fact that the
student is actually the customer.

> NETWORK"

Oh, I dunno. If you're gonna do it, do it right. Maybe Art should toss in
an OC-768, as long as he's at it. :) ^ 128
