Not sure to what you're referring. BellSouth offers two types of circuits
here. Well, all 3mbit must be PPPoE, but I have a pure bridged connection.
All my traffic is ATM. Even if you have the PPPoE stuff, usually they make
the modem do PPPoE -and- NAT, but that's not what I wanted for one place,
where I had a specific router/firewall requirement. So I had them use the
modem configured in bridged mode and just did PPPoE through the bridged
modem. But it's all using ATM up here as far as I've been told.
One interesting thing...when BellSouth resells lines, they're actually
using PPPoE on their end if you have PPPoE. However, the ISP actually only
does PPP. I found out how that all worked when I reported seeing a PADT
packet come in a bunch of times.

Yup--except if you get 3mbit here you have to use PPPoE, not pure bridged
mode. Well, -something- has to use PPPoE, and you can keep the modem in
bridged mode, which is what I'm doing--using the router to do its own PPPoE
stuff but keeping tbe modem bridged.
>From what I've seen of their PPPoE handling, I don't like it. I've seen at
least two outages. My pure bridged connection on 1.5mbit never burps.
They've been down (with sync...just PADT disconnects) for several hours at
a time at least twice now. I'll pass on the 3mbit from BS, thanks.
