Only Ed Olmstead would say something like:

Actually, the line filters are more to keep your DSL in line than they are
to fix your voice line's noise problems. They achieve both, but one is far
more disastrous than the other if you roll off the high-end frequencies.
Take my word for it. I fought sync problems for a week before I found
-one- rogue device that was unfiltered that I'd forgotten about. I had a
totally inverted connection--28KB/sec down, which was good, but 4KB/sec up
in short bursts, when it worked at all. Filtered that one device (an old
Caller-ID box that cost $14 about 5 years back), and *poof* it was fixed.
And BellSouth offers unlimited LD here for $26.95. But you can get the same
thing from MCI for $2 less, and with that $2 you can get decent
international rates as well. $0.15/min week, $0.10/min weekend to
-Australia-?! I used to pay twice that from WI to KY in 1992-3! You can
get $0.07 to England on weekends ($0.10 during the week). It's sweet, and
if you use MCI, quite worth the $2/mo to get the Intl, as if you ever use
Intl without having the plan, it's $0.89/min to anywhere abroad. :-/
You can get MCI's service anywhere, AFAIK. I'd never trust LD to one of
the smaller bells--I don't even like having them do my local phone
service!
