I completely agree with you.

And that is the dilemma.

Our RAD tools are not-decoupled from the database abstraction level, 
therefore we have no way for standard tools to use and view our data 
outside of filePro.

It's the fact that we can write circles around everybody with filePro 
just makes this whirlpool even worse. <? insert something re: aligning 
deck chairs on the titanic ?> I just know that there is a solution, and 
it shouldn't require me to abandon 15 years of good code.
