I confess I've spent the past year toying with the notion of dumping
filePro in favor of a LAMP implementation. At the end of the day I've
decided this would be just beyond painful -- far too many wheels to
reinvent.
So, on to Plan B: a browser-based UI that will utilize my core existing
filePro back-end. I'm looking for someone who can work with me on a
contract basis to achieve this.
The product is a vertical market system featuring fairly complex inventory
control; tracking of orders and shipping; billing and receivables; and
other odds and ends (various types of data import/export, storage and
retrieval of inventory pictures and scanned documents, etc.). Product
will be hosted on Linux servers.
Main design goal is a presentation layer that is robust, professional and
cosmetically polished-looking (i.e. fileProGI need not apply), and that
allows simple, intuitive point-and-click methods of navigation and data
retrieval appropriate to a well-designed modern app.
The contractor I seek will:
* Be geographically accessible to New York City (although work need not be
done primarily onsite, I feel regular face-to-face meetings will greatly
facilitate progress).
* Be knowledgeable about web security issues and capable of properly
hardening the application and its host server.
* Specify and implement the CGI interface (with the tools of your choice)
* Working jointly with me, design web form functional requirements,
logical flow of control from form to form, and data flow between forms and
underlying filePro application code.
* Again working jointly, redesign and implement application features in a
manner appropriate to a web app (e.g., present report runs and browse
lookups as paginated lists, provide query-by-example forms for selection).
* If you are capable of the actual html authoring, so much the better,
otherwise this can be contracted to a third-party web designer. Again, a
smooth professional appearance is key.
Those interested, please contact me off-list to discuss this further.
