Interesting.  I never bothered, really.  I didn't learn on GNU greps
originally, and had my methodology set wayyy back in '89.

I'll probably keep this in mind though when I next need to do it.  The
problem is that unless you have a guaranteed GNU grep, it's possibly
(probably?) not portable scripting.
