Index problems

Ok, I have good news to report!  I deleted the index (the actual index.A
file) in question and rebuilt it.  Now, when I rclerk the file and select
the index that way, everything works fine.  When I do it the other way,
everything is still bad.  Odd...

I'm going to go through the code with a fine tooth comb and hopefully I'll
come up with something.  If not, I'll post back.
