During tests on how long it takes to infect a computer running on
the 'net,  the longest time was about 5 hours, the average was
about an hour and the quickest infection was in about 5 minutes.

That suprised even the testers.   You should be running against at
least a minimal firewall or device which is doing NAT translations
before it would even get near a public reachable IP.

This was a test run by one of the trade mags.  Sorry I can't point
you to which one as I get so much e-new from all of them.
