Index problems

I'll start off by saying that this one's a pretty weird one.

I have an index built on an associated field (T1) which is built around 2
text fields (both are 30,ALLUP).  When searching through this index, I'm
getting some very inconsistent results.

I have a record that looks like this:

1- T1)Name = "c&p transport"
2- T1)DBA Name = ""

When I search for "c&p" this record does not come up anywhere near the
results.  However, if I search for "c&p t" this record is brought right up.

I also have a record that looks like this:

1- T1)Name = "High and Tight Transport"
2- T1)DBA Name = "H&T Transport"

When I search for H&T, everything works fine.

I'm truly stumped on this - has anyone had similar issues with indexes built
on associated fields???
