Because it's not needed with WinXP if all you need is single user access
to a XP box.
You'd have to kill me now if you took away remote desktop. On a cable
modem wired in, I cannot tell the difference between sitting here at
my desk or remote desktoping from home. Via wireless at home I have
a ever so perceptible delay, mostly due to packet delays. Measured in
milliseconds, rather than 1/10th of a second delay.
Video and audio get re-directed perfectly.
I was a hold-out with Windows2000 on my desktop, but XP handles
remote access ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE better than W2K. I was stupid
for not changing a year earlier, primarily for the smoothness in
operation of remote desktop.
An other side benefit is that if you use PuTTy or Anzio over
remote desktop is that you don't loose the connection.
With my laptop if I remote desktop to my workstation
and the laptop looses connection via loss of power or signal,
the ssh window is still running from desktop and is picked
back up as if I never left.
I've tested remote desktop vs VNC, and it's remote
desktop by a mile.
AFAIK-YMMV
