I use it all the time too and I don't know what you are talking about.

Here is a .reg file export of my template sco+ssh settings.

http://www.aljex.com/bkw/sco/PuTTY_sco_ssh_template.reg

I manually blanked out the printer and ssh key file fields.
I'm not sure if the font is one that every machine has, or if it's one that
comes with anzio or facetwin. If you don't have the font, you can get it for
free because I know it comes with *one* of those if not part of windows and
facetwins client is just plain free and anzio has a free demo where the
fonts don't go away after the demo times out.

when I go to define a new connection to a sco box, I first load this
template, then edit the address, change ssh to telnet if necessary, change
the name and save it.

This results in putty acting like a scoansi terminal, that is, like the sco
console. The TERM variable is set to "ansi" and fp, system and gnu apps all
work well.

The only issue I have with putty anymore (well, the only _emulation_ issue)
is specific to *some* places in scoadmin where it doesn't redraw screens
correctly and the way that the passthru-print works makes it useless for
filepro or bbx or any other app that does it's own passthru print management
by switching in and out of print mode so as to keep updating the screen
while printing, putty causes a page eject every time the printer-off code
comes.
