that's good enough for this process then.
I can put the user command back in the top of the gosub, and never close it,
and so if a user never hits the gosub the sub-process never gets spwaned,
and if the user does hit the gosub, it's probably not a bad thing to keep
the sub-process around and re-use it rather than close & open again.
